A6 won't start

Hello!
This is my first post here. I have a 2000 A6 Avant Quattro that refuses to start. It makes a quick kleck, kleck, kleck noise when I turn the ignition and nothing else. I got it jump-started two days ago, but it was dead again the next morning.
What do you guys think it is? The car has 50,000 miles.
My guess is that the battery is gone, though the fact the ignition still works could indicate a bad starter. Either way I think 50K is a little early for dead parts on either one.
I'm thinking in just dropping off the car at the dealership and have them do a complete 50K service on it -- they should find the problem. Anyone have an idea of how much $$$ I should expect to spend?
Thanks for your attention,
Andre

just put some water in the battery (use distilled) jump started it and it has been fine since. As you enter the hot weather (I live in an area with 100 degree weather) it is important to top off the battery. Won't charge well if no water. Might just check it, maybe that is all you need.

The battery Audi supplies is not a no-maintenance battery, and they evaporate a lot in the heat. Add water, and presto, battery will hold a charge again.
Not saying that is the correct answer in your case, but check before throwing down the cash for a new one.
It is shocking the waste of good batteries because of this, the dealerships don't even check them, they just pitch em and hit the buyer for the ~$300.
This is discussed in the owners manual, but Audi wants people to take the car in to have the water level topped off, something I did on my own.

If you aren't comfortable with opening the fill holes on the battery (gloves, eye goggles, clothes you don't mind getting acid on), I would recommend you take the car to a mechanic.
