I just bought a 2000 Audi A6 2.8 quattro and I'm very happy about the car so far. However, a few days ago the MIL lamp turned on and I read the code P1423. Not knowing this will have anything to do with my car inspection, I went and got rejected for "emission problems".

I researched the code and came to some "Seconday injection pump Bank 1 airflow too low", and some 4.2L and 2.7L engine photos on how to fix it. But the engine doesn't look at all like mine (2.8L), so I couldn't do anything yet.

Yesterday the MIL light went off by itself and I quickly went to get the sticker. But I feel the problem (if it was any) is not solved.

Please share your experience with this P1423 code.

that should be DTC 17831 "Secondary air injection system bank 1, flow too low"

P1423 - 17831 - Bank 1, Secondary Air Injection (AIR) system Throughput too low
- Check fuse for Secondary Air Injection (AIR) pump
- Check vacuum hose setup
- Check hose setup from pump to combination valve for Secondary Air Injection (AIR)

The pages to troubleshoot this are too many (and likely illegal, without permission) to reproduce, here. If you're seriously interested in troubleshooting stuff like this yourself, I strongly recommending buying the manual on CD.
