ABS and Brake light on. Need help with Diagnosis. Have 2 codes using VAG-COM.
The ABS and brake lights both come on simultaneously on my 2000 A6 2.8Q. Sometimes in the morning when I start it, the lights don't come on, but if I cut it off and restart it, the lights come on again. Also after driving it the lights will go off for a short period of distance, say 10 miles, and then come back on.
The brake fluid is full and the ABS fuse is good.
When the ABS and Brake lights are on, I can not run the VAG for the ABS controller. I get an error message that it cannot communicate with the controller. When the lights are off, I am able to ran VAG on it and it gives me the following message for the ABS controller: "01203-Electrical Connection between ABS and Instrument Cluster 03-10-No Signal-Intermittent".
For the Engine controller(if ABS and brake lights are on or off) I am getting the following: "18014-Rough Road/Engine Torque Signal from ABS: Electrical Malfunction P1606-35-00".
Please help!

Never seen/heard of those before, but from reading AESIS it sounds like
you've got wiring or connectivity problems. Given that you've got complaints about two different communications - ABS with cluster *AND* ABS with ECU (which is what the 18014 boils down to), I'd guess you've got a bad connection to or (more likely?) *in* your ABS controller.

If you have had your wheels off, suspension work etc. or
anyone under the car check your ABS connectors at the wheels. Mine did something similar with a loose ABS connector. I had coilovers put on and the mechanic bumped the ABS connector loose. I never checked codes, just went right back to him. He checked connectors by looking at them, looked fine, pulled out and plugged back in to insure firm connection and problem went away.
Not sure if this will help but thought I would share.

I've got the same problem right now.
I'm going to go through the troubleshooting with my Bentley this weekend. If I find something I'll let you know. If you find out let me know. I've heard of cluster problems though.

Re: ABS and Brake light on. Need help with Diagnosis. Have 2 codes using VAG-COM.
My car does the same thing. I has been fixed by the dealer 3 times. But day after I get a car back from the dealer, it does the same thing. I don't know what the heck is going on.
Dealer keeps telling that sensor is bad but it can't be the only thing.
Seriously thinking about getting rid of it for a 2000 E class.

Problem seems to be fixed.
I bought a used ABS pump assembly for $165 delivered and installed it. Ran VAG, communicated with ABS controller, cleared codes. As of yet, NO more MIL's. Problem seems to be fixed.
