Default ABS/Brake light on slipping back in?

my abs/brake light came on about a month ago. i assumed it was the connections inside on the board coming loose. It doesnt stay on all the time. Ill be driving and hit the brakes.. i feel the brake pedal go in a little bit.. feels smooth like it something slipping in and the light goes off. could this be the pump? electronic issue? wheel speed sensor? my rotors are in serious need of replacing.. i thought this car had a sensor to tell me when i needed pads and rotors? am i wrong? could this be the reason my abs light comes on and goes? any suggestions? what does this sound like to you all? thanks.

It sounds like you need to pull some codes.

The bad solder joint in the module usually comes on at random times at first with 3 beeps then all the time after awhile. Doesn't sound like your problem so agree with 4D4 that you need to pull some codes or just do the brake job it needs anyway and see if that corrects it.
