Default After Run Cooling Operation on 2004 3.0

Spoke with the SA today as I'm going into Sacramento area where it's normally 95-105.
I have never heard it run in 95-100 weather here (SF peninsula) and I was concerned because I can surely hear the fan on the 100 running after shutting the engine off.
Here's what I was told and it mollifies my concern: The 3.0 cooling fan has three speeds which operate faster as the coolant temperature rises. When the engine is turned off , if needed, a quiet auxilliary pump circulates the coolant as long as necessary to cool the engine to spec. The temperature (mine also) gauge shows the normal 1/2 way operating position. A real overheat problem will cause an icon to show on the display. It's more sophisticated than my '91 100 which turns the fan on after shut down.
Did I understand this correctly?

Default Yup, you pretty much got it. Turbo cars definitely have an after-run coolant pump tied to the fan

but haven't heard of it mentioned on normally aspirated cars. Have to check the Bentley for that.

But if the pump turns on, the fan goes too. Your post implies that just the pump is used on after-run.

Regardless, the fan is tied to the coolant temperature sensor. That part is the same, regardless of whether or not you have the pump. It's been common practice for years to replace the stock sensor and/or thermostat with ones that activate earlier if overheating is a concern.

As long as your console temp gauge is in the center and you heard the fan going at least SOMETIMES (so you know it works), I wouldn't worry about it much.

Let us know if you hear it in Sacto, but I think it's supposed to cool down a bit later in the week.

Default We'll see in Sacramento

It won't be as hot and that's why I'm going next weekend and didn't the past. The SA checked to make sure that it applied to the 3.0.
I don't need fried camshaft seals. Still have 27 months to go on the warranty. Haven't been able to find it in the Bentley as yet. I'll turn on the ignition w/o starting the engine after the run to see where the indicator needle sits.
