Hello,
Just posted here a week ago elated about having just bought a second hand 2003 A6 2.7T.
Had a lot of fun with the car until last night. I was at school (I'm a graduate student) in the morning and was about to park my car. I drove into an empty space that was on the bottom of a hill and put the car in park. It has been snowing here consistently and after I put it in park, the car slid forward due to ice a few feet and ran into the curb. Shaken, I reversed it and then heard a crunching noise. I turned the car off to see that the curb had taken off the left side of my front bumper.
I took it to a body shop and they basically told me I need a new bumper. Audi of America told me I can get one for $600 brand new + $500 installation. Maaco said they would do it for $350 labor if I buy my own bumper.
I posted a picture below, what do you guys think?

Also would this bumper work with my 2003 A6?

I don't mean to be one of those poser types but I really like the RS6 look and I figure that if I need to replace the bumper then I might as well use this as an opportunity to put an RS6 bumper on.
If not that, how about this?

Let me know what all of you think - I was so happy with the A6 having so much fun with the car that this happening is not the best thing.
Maaco also said that they could put a plate in that would hold the bumper together for now and then I could have it put on when I have the money. I'm a graduate student right now (although I have a job lined up) and so I'm not sure what to do: so I ask you fellow Audi enthusiasts should I get it replaced now or should I wait?

If they can put a plate on it to hold it together they should be able to plastic weld and fill and paint it.
Or you could do it and bring it in and have them paint it.

Why is this, do they have a bad reputation?

If you are in a financial pinch right now, why not get a small square piece of aluminum that you can bend to fit the curvature of the bumper, and rivit it on the back side? In that location it would hardly show. This would allow you to get in better financial position before repairing it.
The RS bumper is going to hang much lower than the stock one, and I'd bet that within a month you will have a much worse looking bumper than that one!

go to your local Napa or parts store and pick up a fiberglass repair kit for $20. remove the lower grill, use GOOD masking tape to tape it together form the outside, sand the inside with 60 grit paper, then follow the directions on the fiberglass repair kit. this should take you about 30 minutes to maybe 1 hr depending how fast you work. depending on how well you tape it together i will bet you will never notice the crack being so low on the car! the past owner of my current A6 did the same thing except he caught the side of the bumper and tore it from the bottom corner of the fog light up to almost the front fender it was a 15 inch tear. I repaired it last fall and unless you inspect the car from real close you can't see the tear.
I will also recommend using a few zip ties or wire ties to hold up the bottom of the bumper cover to the frame. many times the bumpers warp over time or the brackets get bent and the bottom of the bumper hangs down and the edges easily get caught. in my opinion you want the back bottom edge of your bumper/belly pan hanging up higher then the front so it doesn't catch!!!
