I have my car booked into Audi as the Electric fan for the air con stopped working and it was only 5 months old . It is going in next week but whilst I was parked up with the engine idling last night there was an almighty bang and loads of "steam" from the front of the car . The ECON light then came up !
Obviously the system has lost all its coolant but my question is does the system have a pressure release valve or has something just "let go" somewhere .
If that is the case what is the most likely weak point on the system ?
Thanks in advance

Temp guage was showing normal . I assume as the cooling fan wasn't working it just got to hot and crapped itself . I will get under and have a look tomorrow . Hopefully the pipes are the weak point !

Based on the clue that the "econ" switch illuminated - the cloud of steam you describe may infact be the A/C refridgerant (sp).
To be sure: the econ light is infact within the HVAC set of switches (temp, fan speed, etc) correct?
Or as you mention - you were able to see coolant on the floor after the event?
