airbag clock spring replacement?........
so my car's at the dealer (Hoffman) to see why the airbag light is on and they tell me the clock spring should be replaced and "hopefully" that'll fix the problem. has anyone had this done? they want $500+ for it, and to top it off, i get to join the split cv boot club now that both are split and they want $800 to fix those. what's the going rate for both cv boots to be replaced? i've searched and found a wide range of answers, but i figure i'll buy two kits from ECS for $40 and have my indie do it when i replace the brakes...unless of course everyone says its running $800.
any thoughts/ideas would be greatly appreciated

Clock spring is about a $250-300 part, have to remove the steering wheel to get at it...
and take apart the upper and lower steering column trim. After install, it must be calibrated (steering angle sensor) for ESP. Probably about 2 hours of labor. That being said, about $500 al in at the daeler is about right.
This is what is looks like...

The CV boots are not that expensive, cost me about $150 at my indy shop (including parts) for one side. Do that elsewhere. $800 is ridiculous, unless they are replacing the CV joint as well.

thanks for the input, makes me feel better about the $535 estimate (don't feel
good about paying for a non wear and tear item like that, but safety first i guess).
if the loaner they offered me had been the new S6 in the lot i might have paid the $800 for the boots, but i doubt that was the case.
thanks for verifying my suspicions
