Actually the A8 seems to use a replacable element usally. Where it is I don't know.

Default The oil might be okay for that interval, but what about the filter? I'm switching to synth at

10,000, but leaving the new filter in for the next 10,000 miles is what gnaws at my comfort level, and will probably lead to an oil change after 5,000 miles.

Default The "fix" would be extremely simple..........

The filter canister on my BMW's have 2 high pressure hoses that go to the bottom of the engine, where the Audi filter is similarly located. All Audi has to do is place a similar contraption in its engine bay and you guys will all do your own oil changes mess free- which brings me to another thought. Maybe Audi wants the oil change process to be such a pain-in-the-*** that you HAVE to take your car into their dealerships for service?

What percentage of 4.2 V8 owners do actually change the oil themselves? very little I guess

Default If you saw how tight it is in there, you'd know it wouldn't be "simple"...

no less "extremely", but you're right, I'm sure it "could" be done...their motives?...I doubt they are sinister, but as Andre said...I doubt many fat-boy owners change their own oil...they're all too fat and lazy (or too smart

Default I just don't see it as a big problem...

if the oil analysis shows dirt is light, as it does, and no contaminants, IF you're using an OEM filter you should have no problem... remember, my Porsche tech/ friend has used one fill of Amsoil and one filter for more than a year in RACING conditions with no ill effect and clean oil analysis results.

Of course, if you are like "myfirstimport" and want to use a cheap filter on a $40k car, then the odds go down, but I'm not worried...

Default Gotta make it easy for you whimps. Audi owners love to be intimate with their cars. (?!)

That said, I will probably change the oil in my Z3 [a lot] more often than my 4.2!!!!
