What engine? It may not be as big a deal as you think. Find a reputable indy shop and give them a call. A simple compression test will tell the story.

OP said timing belt broke so its probably the 2.7t. The allroad 4.2 uses a Timing Chain

I'll trade you for my extremely rare Silver C5 A6 (with the much coveted 2.8 motor).

That Allroad is nice, but silver cars are faster..

(...is he buying it?)

I have NJ places listed here. Not sure how close you are to any of them, but might be worth a call to see what a ' head replacement' will cost you. You can usually get the heads off eBay for reasonable money. Probably 300 each or so

Hope that helps

That's very helpful, thanks. I'm having my awesome mobile mechanic come take the heads off to see if they can simply be replaced or if there's a hole in a piston and then take it from there. There's hope of recovery yet .

Replace valves, not heads.
Unless a valve head snaps off and pounds the crap out of the head, there is no need to replace.

Further, get a belt back on there first and do a leak down test. Sometimes you get lucky and the damage is confined to one side.

Diagnose first, then fix.

Doubtful that you holed a piston. Might be a smile on a few of them but once the valves bend out of the way they can't do anymore damage unless one happened to break off.

I agree with 4driver4. Get it tested to see what all the damage is before you go buying new heads.

Taking the heads off is not a simple procedure compared to a leak down test. Do the simple stuff first.
