The V8 has the SAI pump next to the alternator (on my 2K4.2A6 and 02S6 for clarification) but the alternator is at the 7oclock position down low rather than up high as on the v6 from what I've seen.
Relatively easy to get out (for an Audi….the Audi is a beatch compared to most GM cars…).

I used to have etka but my PC crashed and i lost the program but i would love to know what is fastened to the bracket from hell...

I think AIRBAG is making it sound more complicated!

I do share his frustration regarding working in this cold weather. At least, his garage is empty unlike mine! I have to setup shop on the driveway -contemplating the trans & gear oil changes in a day or two when it is around 50s...

you guys have challenged me now .. that part was NOT in that pic .. believe me i have had 3 audis now and been working on cars for 30 years..
okay found the part number on the bracket.. 078121599B
i looked it up and it is in fact an auxillary water pump on the 2.8 mounted on a bracket nest the the alternator.
To remove this bracket you must remove the sai pump and bracket along with the ac dryvyer bracket to get to the bolts for the coolant pump bracket.
Remove a bolt from the front of the motor below the timing belt cover.
remove the nut and bolt crimping the bracket to the body along with the main engine to chassis ground..

Ah! now we're getting somewhere... ![Smile](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
What's with the bracket? All this for alternator? or, are you also replacing something else along the way?
Here is some info I found that may help:

That F'ing bracket is mounted up next to the alternator above the oil pan, the alternator won't move more than an inch till that is removed.
You have to remove other stuff so you can get to the bolts.
On my way now tho.
I just hope other people read this and realize this has to come out on a 2.8.
There was a water pump mounted to it I just left dangling.
If search the pn on etka it might show it.

I won't doubt you as you are working on it in person and would know better as to what's involved; unclear why they would omit such crucial info...
