alternator replacement part #

is there any way to figure out which replacement alternator i need for my 2004 a6 2.7 without setting the car to service position? i'm planning on replacing it this weekend, but i don't know if i'll have time before then to get started.

For that year (2004) and engine code (BEL), you might have the Bosch pn 078 903 016F, or the Valeo pn 078 903 016H. Both should be 120A.
