I was driving down US-50 and to my right was a dodge ram a little bit ahead of me but not fully infront of me. to my right a subaru outback not fully behind me so if any of us changed lanes we would hit. Of course Dodge boy with his metal box thing blocking his rearview mirro tries to change lanes into my lane. I didnt know there was the subby to my right so i begin to swerve right i look see the subby he breaks i stop moving right im about a half a foot away from the dodge and he still doesnt see me the subaru has been breaking and a hole barely opens up I gas it and make it through the hole the whole time the dodge boy was obvlivious to what was happening.

... did the Euro split mirrors on our A4 Avant, which are great! Sadly, the A6 has auto-dimming outside mirrors, which are VERY pricey in the Euro-split style. So it will get good old Pep Boys spots.

They set them so that they can actually see their own door; but in reality, they need to tilt out further to see cars in, or near, your blind spot.
Oh, and it also helps to swivel your head and look!

I see the lane next to me. Rationale: I know where my car is, I don't need it in the mirror. I DO want to see other vehicles in the mirrors.

Beats turning your head around and taking your eyes completely off what is in front of you.
It's also useful in track events when you want to see how close you are getting to the edge. I take a glance at the spot out of the corner of my eye as I apex, and this shows me how close I'm getting;-)

i check them regularly
there is no instance where a car is COMPLETELY in a blind spot - it will appear in one of the mirrors or clearly be in my perhipheral vision.
This does make it a little difficult to park in tight spots throughout LA, but I can rely more on turning my head back than using the rear/side mirrors.
