Default Antenna components / wiring path?

I am trying to find the source of a radio problem. I have looked through the ETKA without much luck locating the proper components and I don't have a Bentley yet, so I'm hoping someone here can help...

The radio will never lock on a station when it's seeking / scanning. I can manually tune strong stations, but with some static. I am assuming there is a problem with the antenna, and I know there is a diversity group in the back window.

Is there a signal amplifier anywhere, or is the antenna signal routed straight to the head unit? Any pointers?

Thanks!

Default what year car...2000 or newer I assume......look here

there is an FM diversity tuner pack, in the rear deck, you should be able to get to it by lying on your back in the trunk.

It takes the 2 antennas in the rear window, and converts them into 1 signal.

That then goes to the tuner of the car.

When I bought my car the radio reception was bad, and they had to order a new FM diversity pack, so they just left the old one hanging from the rear deck lid.

I think there is a se[erate tuner pack somewhere else in the car before the head unit, but I dont know for sure.

Default I have the exact same problem....

If your car is an A6 1998-2003 then it has 4 antenna amplifiers and 5 separate antennas (4 FM and 1 AM).

Amplifier locations:
1) (AM/FM4) behind left D-pillar trim (top)
2) (FM3) behind left D-pillar trim (bottom)
3) (FM1)Behind right D-pillar trim (top)
4) (FM2) below right D-pillar trim (bottom)

The control module for these antennas is located below the parcel shelf (left side).

The trick is to find the amplifier with the problem. It's not too bad if you have a VAG-COM because it will tell you which antenna amplifier is bad.

Default Re: I have the exact same problem....

Have you tracked down which is the problem on yours? I'm going to check connections now.

Thanks!

Default Common cause of AM issues is rear window tint with a film that contains metal (most quality....

...modern tints seem to have some amount of metal in them). Doesn't seem to be any easy fix, although I have considered trying a different antenna...
