S4 owner looking into options for a bigger car (for bigger family :-).
Last time I drove A6 2.7T stock I was severely disappointed, only the 4.2 seemed to have enough power to move all that mass fast enough for me to start having fun.
But I have never driven modd'ed A6. So I wanted to ask:
- is stage 1 any better or still not enough to overcome the weight ?
- is stage 2+ the best available for Tip ?
- how about stage 3, anyone done downgraded K04 1bar program, or level 10 tip ?
For those that have gone the mod route, roughly when does the power/weight ratio get reasonable ?

Stage 1 definintely gives you a more "acceptable" power/weight ratio - better than the stock 4.2. However, just as with the S4, there's always that nagging "Am I going to cook my turbos" thought.
In a stage 1 solution, you can help alleviate that if you get a chip that allows you to swap between "stock" and "chipped" modes. That way you can leave it in stock for most "normal" driving, an then switch to chipped mode when you're ready for "fun"...
I have gone the K04 route, with a conservatively tuned 350ish HP. I've had that setup for about 60K miles, and still love it - and it's a blast at the track. However - I have a 6spd...

So, Dallas is right on this point. If you felt the A6 2.7T was slow, you were either driving a defective example, or the size just masked the speed. They are very close in speed.

i'm helping one of my S4 buddies upgrade to stage5 in his garage right now... one recommendation for a full stage 5 on a 2.7T tip is to do the level 10 tranny upgrade...

But it is certainly less nimble. That is fairly easily curable if that's your concern.

Thanks for the thought, though! The 17" mille miglia spyders are discontinued...
