Default Any '95 S6 Avant freaks out there?

Is this not the most stealth, kick-butt car on the road? IMHO, there are PLENTY of the new (and brilliant) Audi sedans on the streets in the US these days, but verrrrrry few are lucky enough to have this special piece of machinery...

Agree?

Default Totally!

I personally prefer the sedan, though. You rarely see the UrS6 out there, and a lot of newer model Audi owners don't even know of it... but for '95, it was without a doubt up there with the M5. There weren't many 6.0 60mph cars out there in '95. Awesome car for sure... some day I hope to own one.

Default Mixed Bag....

I see plenty of the old 12V A6's around here both wagon and sedan version and even quite a few 100's and S4's... The S6 Avants were nice, but too indistinguishable from the ordinary A6 wagons save the slightly bigger wheels and the S-badge.. in my opinion the newer upcoming version will be a far bigger improvement..

The S6 was a very loosely based competitor to the previous generation M5's or 500E mercedes, but was really a good alternative to the Volvo 850TR Wagon, and Saab 9000 Aero..

Default If you want to go down memory lane... -)

The URS6 was a loosely based competitor to the previous M5, but no one in their right mind shopping for an E34 M5 or W-124 500E Mercedes at the time would really consider the S6 on their shopping list unless they wanted 4WD.. The refinement, engine development, and handling in the S6 just wasn't there to compete head on..

Building fast cars is nothing new to Audi.. The 1990-1991 200 Quattro wagon at the time was one heck of a land rocket and an interesting car.. that too hit 0-60mph in 6.5 seconds and had the same displacement and horsepower as the S4/S6 lineup.. The S2, another loosely based competitor to the E30 M3 built by BMW was out there in the early 1990's.. Unfortunately, that too lacked the refinement and handling capabilities to compete head on with the M3...

Default Audi refinement has been superior to BMW's competing models.

There is no question of this. The interior appointments have always been better in the audi's, save perhaps the 'individual' sport rear seats in the early M5. Performance is another matter. However, the cost of similar vehicles has always left the tuner-prone among us plenty of spare change to bring the 91 200q, urS4/6 into line with the performance of the comparable Bmw, dollar for dollar.

And you have awd.

Default I wasn't talking about interior appointments...

And I wasn't necessarily comparing it head to head with BMW... A 2.2 Inline 5 turbo engine will not have the same engine refinement and performance characteristics in a 200Q or URS6 against a larger in-line 6 engine in the M5 or 5.0 litre V8 in a Mercedes..

If you compare the engine dimensions of the URS6 and performance, it competes better with the Saab 9000 Aero, or Volvo 850TR wagon, both which have similar engine displacements, turbo engines, Price and available in wagon format..

Default We all have our opinions....

The Saab and Volvo aren't in the same league as the S6, IMO.

Taking your logic, the A6 2.7T "will not have the same engine refinement and performance characteristics" as a 540i or E430 w/V8. Who compares engine dimensions? Does that mean a 2.8L V6 will have better engine refinement and performance than a 2.2L I5T, or a 2.7L V6TT?

I think Audi has proven that when they slap turbos on cars, they give the cars more expensive and with larger engines a run for their money.
