and my folks are considering purchasing it. It has 76K miles, serviced regularly, in clean condition.

I've researched the pricing already. Already read the JD Powers rating for mechanical reliablity ( a 2 out of 5, 5 being the best).

I'm more concerned about reliability. My folks are retired and I'd hate for them to incur a bunch of repair costs.

Thanks in advance for your input,

Andre

I just recently purchased my first Audi (2000 A6 2.7T)and I love it. The car I traded in for the Audi was a 1999 S70 AWD. The AWD system in the 1999 Volvo's is problematic at best. If you are buying used (as you are), then the viscous coupler needs to be checked. If the previous owner did not rotate the tires EVERY oil change, then the coupler may have been compromised. I rotated my tires with every oil change; however, the AWD system still needed to be repair ($1600). A year from the date of repair, the vehicle started to show the same symptoms of AWD failure. Perhaps I got a lemon; however, if you review the Volvo AWD systems for the 99-year, then I'm sure you will find other people with the same problem. Volvo's are great cars, and as with all makes, some will have problems.
