Default Have them both and ....

I have both a 2002 330i and a 98 A6 2.8Q. My wife drives the Audi. Love the BMW 3 series. With a 5 series you get close to the Audi.

BMW handling is more connected. Over time my old BMW 325 (87 with 153 K) miles help up better than my 1998 A6 seems to. If you work on your cars BMW is better (access is better).

Do not get me wrong guys, I like my Audi. DRIVE THEM BOTH BACK TO BACK. I drove the A4 2002 and then a used BMW 328 at my Audi dealer before I decided on my 2002 330i.

Default I had a 1997 740il now have a 2001 2.7t .

In my case the Audi and the BMW were from different ranges of their respective manufacturer but I can still compare them. The BMW was very nice but I think the Audi interior, instrument panel, seats, etc. are at least as nice as the BMW. The handling on the 740il was a bit softer than the Audi but this is comparing a 740 to an A6 with sport suspension. Audi tends to have pretty soft suspensions so you might want to consider the sport suspension if you like the BMW feel.

I didn't think I would care much about Quattro since I live in Sacramento, where is never snows, but I don't know if I would buy a car without AWD now that I've tried it. I spun my 740 in the rain and my brother in law says the same thing happened to him a couple of times in his 740. Lots of power with 2 wheel drive = loosing traction and a possible spin. With the Quattro and the 2.7t I can go full power in a sharp turn in first gear and not even hear a chirp from the tires. With my BMW I would either be spinning the tires or the traction control would be pulling the power to stop the tires from spinning, either way it's not as safe or high performance.

My 2000 A6 2,7t was none to reliable but neither was my 740il. My 2001 A6 2.7t has been totally trouble free for a year and 13,000 miles. It seems that Audi had some QC problems in the late 90s and 2000 due to extremely rapid sales growth but the 2001 and 2002 models seem to be much better.

I miss my M3...drove it for 5 years (in the snow also) and never got stuck in the snow. But I have to admit my A6 4.2 is excellent in the snow.
