Default 19K on an 01 and zero problems; just enjoyment. But...

Beware of the Consumer Reports info...they don't differentiate between minor tweaks and real problems. If someone reports a they took the car in on warranty to have squeek fixed, its not differentiated from a true problem. And since CR survey respondents are an **** bunch of ex-Volvo owners, the A6 has a mediocre rating. Its baloney. Best car I've ever owned, including Mercedes.

Default '00 A6 2.7T/6-sp w/37K...track and auto-x...only problems were MAF sensor failure

and front-passenger window track binding and both were replaced under warranty. Did the factory fuel-sender recall only because Audi said they wanted it done...never had any of those problems.

Cheers,

Default 2001 model. 10k miles. 100% satisfaction. Very few issues.

And the few issues? All fixed expeditiously and accurately under warranty. The car has never been down for repairs or otherwise in the shop for more than half a day.

Default Yeah, lots of small annoying problems gets in the way of enjoying this great car

The initial build quality was excellent but still there are a slight paint irregularity and color stain on wood panels that were taken care of by the dealer. Also, there were more than a few areas that were creaking and rattleing over small bumps which were surprising and most still exist even after dealer's attempt to fix them.
Then there is shaking from coming from front breaks so the dealer replace the pad and resurface the rotor. The shake was reduced greatly but still can feel a bit of vibration from high speed breaking; I heard for 2002 Audi improved on the front breaks.
Then there is the annoying clutch; for a while is was slipping going up steep hill and resulted in shaking upon clutch pick-up afterwards. It has gotten better now but dealer refused to acknowledge such problem and told me the clutch is working fine; even though the sale rep kinda agree with me that there's something wrong with the transmission. Oh well, it will take a while before any real problem, if any, would occur as a result.
All these repeating annoying problems took away some enjoyment of owning such great car. When there are passengers in the car it is kinda embarrassing to explain how a car costing $45,000 would rattle and creak over bumps worse than a $15,000 Civic. No Japanese cars were able to sell a bunch of cars based on qualities alone.

Default '00 A6 2.7T/6-sp w/50k...

I've had a few problems, but this is far and away the best car I've ever had! It's also my 3rd Audi. I'd buy this car again in a heartbeat.

Default 2000 6 speed, 40k, no major problems

check engine light twice 25k, replaced O2 sensors, in 2 different locations, apparently these were 'fixed'for later models.
Otherwise, enjoy the car everyday, with fairly rigorous driving style.
recommended!

2000 2.7T Tip (10/99 build date). Usual trivial problems. Otherwise flawless.

It's a shame that your dealer has added insult to your injury.

Default About Consumer Reports

From 1998 to 2000 I remember reading several times in different issues of CR that they rated the A6's reliability at or above average and recommended it as well. From 2000 to present I also remeber reading several times in different CR issues that they have been rating and continue to rate the A6's relaibility below average and no longer recommends the A6. The reason? Literally all A6 owners CR surveyed from 1998 to 2000 had the 2.8 variant. From 2000 to present a vast majority or all A6 owners CR surveyed had the 2.7T variant (mainly early 2000). 2.7T's reliability (manily early build examples) is generally lower than that of other variants of the A6. However the 2.7T's relaibility has caught up to other variants of the A6 and other German cars. The other variants of the A6 (2.8/3.0, 4.2 and S6) have generally always have been on par with other German cars. However very few or none of the A6 owners surveyed by CR as of late have not had the 2.8/3.0 or 4.2 variants and probably none have had the S6.
