Default anyone change the rear sway bar themself?

The A4 FAQ doesn't take into account that we have dual exhausts and the sway bar goes above them.

Does anyone have any tips for my as to what to do? I would guess I would unbolt the mufflers and pass the bar behind them. But are those two down by the exhausts the only ones? And do I have to remove the bumper valance to get to those?

I thought routing out the bushings would be the toughest part.

Default I've got the PSK bar and will be installing it

next Saturday. I don't expect it to be too dificult. My guess is that it will take less then 2 hours for the whole job. We'll see...

Default Re: anyone change the rear sway bar themself?

I had the Audi dealer do it (1hr. labor). The mechanic was very knowledgeable and helpful. He is a member of the Quattro Club and mention he's done a bunch of these on A4 and was impressed to see someone do something to an A6. He simply discinnected the exhaust hangers at the rear and used tall jack stands to support the exhaust system with a 3" drop. The bar slips right in no problem. I am very impressed with the results. The cars rear end is much more controlled and turn in is perceptably better. The bouncy highway effect has been tamed.
In my opinion Audi sould install the PSK bar as standard. The ride comfort has not been diminished at all. By the way, the mechanic used rubber bushings from Jaguar since they fit perfectly witout cutting.

Default cutting went well

The non-sport sway bar is 15mm in diameter, but the hole in the bushing is only 11.7mm at the center, and 13mm at the outside.

The sport sway bar is 18mm in diameter, so I gouged the bushings to 14.7mm at the center and 16mm at the outside. I tell you though, it sure will take a lot of pressure to close the clamps around those bushings.

Based on all this I would think drilling the bushings out to 19.1mm (3/4") might not be the best idea.

Anyone with some suggestions here?

I am happy with the gouging I did, I took great care, probably more than I needed to.
