Default Anyone have a 628 servotronic relay...

they are willing to part with?

I was thinking about doing the servotronic override when in tiptronic, the same one that Jmess5 did using the wiring harness made by WildBlueYonder. I have the same harness ready to go, but before tapping into any wires, I wanted to try out the other relay to see if the OEM aproach would suit my needs without doing too much modification.

As time goes on, I am starting to hate the 605 more and more. I like the idea of pulling the relay, but then my wife would not be able to drive the car (although that could solve Potomac's issue with the front bumper...sorry, could not resist). The other solution is pretty slick, but only works when in tiptronic, which I don't use as often as I should.

I hear the 628 is a bit better, about 80% of the boost that the 605 gives. Any thoughts?

Default Don't be so quick to keep the relay

I don't have a relay in my car and my wife never complains or even mentions the steering which is WAY heavier than her Jag. Try it, she may be fine.

Default She tried it...

and I tried it, and we both hated it. WAy too stiff. Our arms are already tired picking up our 3 year old all the time.

Just wanted to try out the 628 first, then maybe the bypass harness like Jmess5 did for his car.

Well I guess this mod is now off the books. After install the Nav+ in my car, I find myself driving my wife's TL more often than I'd like. Prior to getting the A6 I use to complain that the TL steering was way to loose compared to my A4. Now when I drive the TL, the steering is actually NOTICABLY stiffer than the A6. I could already hear my wife telling me to put the relay back in if I were to pull it. Anyway the TL is coming off lease soon so hopefully I can use this opportunity to pick up a CPO 4.2 liter for myself (not a big fan of the C6 just yet) and MOD it to my hearts content.

Default I have the 628 in my car. SUBTLE is the best way to describe the difference. As a matter of fact..

...sometimes I wonder if I can feel any difference at all. My wife's car's steering is lighter (with the 605), but her tires are smaller, too, and her suspension is the mushy non-sport...

At any rate, the 628 does feel a bit tighter at speed.....I think.

I guess I can't tell you with certainty that you'll love the difference it makes. I bought mine from Clair parts for something just over $100, IIRC, and don't consider that money to be wasted.

Default I like the 628 in my '02 MUCH better than the 605 in my '99

but it is still way lighter at low speeds than my A4. Kinda like driving on ice in a parking lot. But I'm too lazy to pull it.

Install the relay, but add a switch instead of using the Tip lead...
