or rather some direct variety of that engine, as it is the V8 now. The A8, allroad, S4 all use it.

Current rumor has the same 300hp v8 in the first year and maybe when the s6 comes out they will bump it up some. Traditionally, they start low and raise it in later models.
It is my understanding that Audi is trying to phaze out turbos and Manual trannys so we'll see.

Ah, I see no manual transmission.
It is a bit cloudy but.... no S4 engine. Something about the S4 V8 being an A6 V8, just modified to fit a smaller car??
Why not a S8 engine? However, I doubt that also. Possibly we will get the same engine and later a S6 version. Who knows what it will be.

I would think it will get the new 4.2 with the rear accessory drive. They are already putting it in the S4, A8, and Allroad.
Someone posted last month that a dealer told them Audi would sell an M6 transmission with the V8. One can only hope.

current A6 4.2, S6, previous gen A8 all used the same engine with a variety of tweaks for different output to segment the cars into their respective markets.
I'm only hoping for the manual, but based on the A6 demographics (whether we here like it or not, the vast majority of A6's are sold with TIP) I wouldn't be surprised to see it omitted. Of course, the Phaeton came out of VAG too, so who knows where Audi is pulling their market research from (out of their a$$es, apparently).
Where have you heard that Audi is phasing out manual transmissions? The new S4 sure wouldn't back that rumor up!

is the way they want to go except the S line for now. But look at the RS6. A lot of power and they only made an auto. Of course this is all second hand until the real deal emerges, but thats the scuttle I got.

B6 S4 is last S model from Audi. After that, Audi's S line is just a few upgraded sport packages and Audi's RS models (their only honest to god high performance line) are fully phased in to the Audi line up and will be Audi's only equivalent to BMW's and Mercedes' M and AMG models. RS models will no longer be relegated to special edition high performance models at the end of a similar A models life cycle (which is enormously pathetic). This will begin with the D3 RS8, A5 RS3 and C6 RS6. This was all confirmed by Dr. Martin Winterkorn (head of Audi AG) himself at the 2003 Geneva Auto Show in March of 2003. An AudiWorld member of the B6 S4 forum named energetics shared all of the above information with AW about four months ago. AutoBild also indicated all of the above information. As for phasing out turbochargers, all diesel engines will still have turbochargers while all of Audi's future RS models will have twin turbochargers. However, if Audi does phase out turbochargers for anything other than diesel engines, then maybe (not speaking factually here) all of Audi's future RS models will have superchargers. That would be excellent! And a first for Audi. I hope this ends up being the case! Superchargers are more reliable and lower maintenance than any turbochargers, have no lag, take up a lot less space in the engine bay and deliver similar fuel economy. Because of this, superchargers are much better than any turbochargers.

It is titled "No C6 S6 (longish)". I know that I sound like a broken record, but the info in that message never sinks into anyone's heads. ****, even a salesperson at Legend Autorama (which is a VW, Audi and Porsche dealer) in Amityville, NY was fully aware of all of the information in the last message I posted. And auto salespeople are usually less or much less knowlegeable about cars in general (including the ones they sell) that all other Automotive enthusiasts. Also, AutoBild is far more reliable about information regarding future German vehicles than most or all Automotive sources worldwide. No surprise there, since AutoBild is a German Automotive company.

submit a link to Stoney for his FAQ and you can just point to it as reference and not get frustrated having to explain it all every time it comes up.
