AoA has agreed to replace both of my front tires . . .

AoA has agreed to replace both of my front tires . . .
as a "one-time good-will" gesture. How lame of an excuse is that. I was told by the Asst. Service Manager at my dealer that 17" wheels and tires are not appropriate for our roadways in New York. No one is willing to admit that the tires are crap, rather they claim that I must have hit some potholes and went as far as to put the car up onto a life to check for bent wheels. I could buy the pothole story for one tire, but both front tires in less than 800 miles seems too unlikely to be coincidence.

maybe coincidence or maybe not. I could see that one good hit on a wide pothole could knock out both tires -- I've seen it happen.
Glad yours got taken care of. I have no experience w/ the wheels & tires in question but I grew up around NYC and I wouldn't want to be driving 17s there, just my own subjective preference.
Good luck.

You are right, they should not be giving you a hard time over it. It spoils the gesture, they would get a much happier client by agreeing with you that there is a problem with the tires, not the roads or you.

The brutal highway surfaces in NYC cracked the frame of my CRX...
a few years ago during just one week of driving (although it did have a fair amount of rust at the point where it cracked). 16" is probably better in general, but 17"s do look better.

I don't live in NYC . . .
but rather in the suburbs of NYC and don't drive the car into NYC. The bubbles developed at different times. I noticed one last week after having the car hand washed and at that point checked the other three tires and found no other bubbles. I next drove the car on Sunday after returing from vacation and noticed a bubble in the other front tire. I do not recall hitting any significant potholes.

Re: I don't live in NYC . . . doesn't matter, neither did I...
any of the NY metro area highways are bad enough to be fertile ground for the problem you describe, whether in NJ, NY or CT.
