Default PSA- This exhaust might not pass any form of emission tests due to low density cats.

So if there is a need to have your car pass smog control, this exhaust could fail miserably. Learned this lesson the hard way- even with APR's confirmation prior to purchase.

Default either youre refering to the APR downpipes, or *you* fail miserably...

the ad was for reduced pricing on the cat-back system. there are no cats that come with that setup... downpipes included cats. if you just installed an APR cat-back and your car failed a smog test, your OEM cats are dead and that has nothing to do with aftermarket pipes and mufflers.

Default I installed the full APR system. And 3 different shops, 2 of which are very respected vendors here

confirmed it was the APR system which was causing the issue.

It didn't pass visual check, and it didn't pass the smog test. The only solution, after exhausting options and replacing O2 sensors, installing Vast O2 spacers, etc. was to have Cat and Downpipe exhaust replaced of which this APR exhaust is part of.

The only solution offered by APR after multiple requests for assitance was to buy a full stage 3 upgrade from them since their software would make the exhaust system work. Upon further investigation the only reason their sofware would work is becuase they would 'override' a specific code/reading which makes the whole system illegal in California.

Like I said- two very respected tuners and vendors on here identified the issue to be the APR products vs. the software, O2 sensors, MAF sensors, etc.

I really wanted to like/keep their system, but after spending 18 months and several hundered dollars trying to fix the issue, the last component which fixed the issue was the replacement of Cat and Downpipe exhaust.

All I'm trying to do is warn others who might be considering doing the same- as I did purchase the full APR system during one of their promotions as a combined set.

I do think that after spending $3000 on an exhaust system, and asking specifically if it would pass CA emissions tests prior to purchase and getting a product that didn't meet expectations and guarantees I have the right to post my experience on here.

For those who don't have emission test concerns, this is a fine product.

Thanks for making this into a personal 'attack' post from someone who has been way longer than you have and wants to inform/educate the community.

In the spirit of this board sir... *you* fail.

Default but theres nothing wrong with the cat-back section you bought

and thats what this ad was for... obviously youre quite upset about the downpipes, i meant there was no way the cat-back section affected any emission test. i wasnt attacking, thats a ****ty situation to be put in with the downpipes. and i know CA is tough with emmisions but if they said it would pass they should stand by that, why wouldnt they replace the cats? or even the whole downpipes...
i passed fine with piggies

Default Did APR say what caused the smog check fail like a reduction in back pressure?

...which might affect the way the o2 sensors operate? Just curious.

Default His response is valid. The original post by Courtney refers to catback setups only.

So a response to that post telling people that they will fail an emissions test if they install one is not correct. Catback setups utilize the factory catalytic converters. Emissions problems will only occur after the installation of aftermarket downpipes with high-flow cats (which is what happened to you.) If Courtney had done a post about APR downpipe setups, then your response would have been justified. But she didn't, so it wasn't.

Default

Piggies FTW. I could never justify spending over a grand on DP's with slightly larger tubing.

Default What causes the failure is cats that have a lower efficiency than the OEM units.

That is what caused my CEL after I installed high-flow cats. They are not as "good" as they should be.

Default We have hundreds of systems on cars in CA. Buying our software is NOT necessary to rid the MIL and

not necessary to pass emissions, either. You could go to any APR distributor and they can flash a program for FREE on your car that we provide with as an option with each exhaust purchase, riding your CEL/MIL.
