a separate part relative to the upright strut member.

Not quite accurate either. In ONE case in all of Audi is the bearing housing a separate piece.
And that is on cars with the aluminum upright.
Every other Audi ever made has the wheel bearing pressed into the upright/knuckle/strut housing.
This excludes the R8 of course, I have not had the pleasure of working on one of those yet.

Kris, You've lost focus on what the Q is! Reread your posts. Is the "knuckle" integral with the...
vertical member or bolted to it? Was the Q. Not the shape of the bearing. With the two piece McPherson strut design one can add additional camber by reducing the retaining bolt size of the upper bolt, BTDT.

Oh, I thought you meant the bearing and the knucke. Sorry, you're right..
the MAC Strut cars had more of a true knuckle (but not really if the steering tie rod bolts to the strut, which is the case in several models), with the strut being the 'upright'.
