Default Audi A6 2000 2.8l quattro fuel gauge problem

hi.
So i filled my tank with 20litres of gas. My fuel gauge moved. But now it shows empty. Is there any fuse i can check or the problem is deeper? I drove about 10km and it showed empty.

Nope, no fuse.

You either have a bad fuel gauge in the cluster (most likely) or a bad fuel sender.

If you have a trip computer, does it show how many miles you have to empty? If that still works, it is the fuel gauge. There are places on the internet that you can send your cluster to for fixing.

Or you find someone with Vagcom/VCDS and do a Cluster Gauge check to rule out the dash fuel gauge otherwise the problems with the sender as george944 suggests.

Default There were problems with that year fuel senders.

IIRC there was a recall because the sender was affected by sulfur(?) levels in North American fuels. Since you used litres perhaps you're not in NA, but the problem is still more likely the sender than the instrument cluster. Chances are the sender is combined with the in-tank fuel pump; you can remove and replace the fuel pump/fuel level sender assembly and replace it.

Check with your dealer for fuel level sender recall; you're probably beyond getting it replaced under recall but you never know what audi might do for you until you ask!!
