I have a '99 Audi A6 quattro and when I drive over a manhole cover or railway track or a pot hole, it feels that the rear tires slip a little. This is more noticeable in wet weather. Is this normal in quattro vehicles? If not, can u suggest what could be the reason for this to happen. I have brand new tires on the car.

All 4 wheels have power. With quattro, if the rears slip the power is redirected to the other wheels.
Mostly, I'm surprised you feel it. I would check the alignment.

I feel this only for a second while the rear tire goes over a manhole or a pothole. Other than that when I am driving straigt, the car's doesn't get pulled over to one side. Do u still think I need alignment?

Probably not. It's probably just quattro, but I'm surprised you're able to feel it.
Sometimes I feel the rear slip a little bit, but usually the ground is wet or snowy and I have the wheel turned a bit with the throttle pinned.
