The latest TrueDelta Vehicle Reliability Survey results have been posted. These are for the year ending December 31, 2007. Thanks to the help of AudiWorld (and JET in particular), these results include two model years of the A6.
For the 2001 Audi A6, we received an average of 4.1 months of data on 22 cars. The stat of 213 successful repair trips per 100 vehicles per year (2.1 per vehicle) is much worse than average even for a 2001 model.
For the 2002 Audi A6, we received an average of 7.3 months of data on 13 cars. The stat of 114 successful repair trips per 100 vehicles per year (1.1 per vehicle) is about average, maybe a little worse than average, for a 2002 model.
The sample sizes are low, so these results are asterisked. The large difference between the two results could be due to the small sample sizes, or because the 2002 is more reliable than the 2001. Probably some of both. The average odometer readings are 61,000 and 77,000, respectively, so the 2001s do have significantly more miles on them.
Everyone who has been helping out with this research, thank you. Those who aren't yet helping out, please consider doing so. It would be nice to get rid of those asterisks and include additional model years in future updates.

But for now, think of it as asking 22 and 13 owners, respectively, how reliable their cars have been lately. It won't give you a highly precise result, but still one worth paying attention to.

The only thing I have paid for in that time was $1800 for a warranty (what a waste), one CV boot, timing belt, tie rod ends, and brake pads.
I have a 2001 2.7t 6speed with 130k total vehicle miles.
