TO BUSINESS AND AUTO EDITORS:

Audi of America, Inc. Announces Voluntary Recall on
1998 and 1999 A6 2.8 Sedans in Cold Weather States

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Oct. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Audi of America, Inc. today
announced that it is voluntarily recalling 28,363 A6s in the U.S. from model
years 1998 and 1999. All 1998-1999 model year Audi A6 vehicles equipped with
a 2.8L V6 five-valve engine and automatic transmission that are registered in
cold weather states are included.
Audi has determined that, in rare cases while driving at a steady rate of
speed for a considerable period of time and during extremely low ambient
temperatures (below +5 degrees F), the throttle on affected vehicles may not
return to idle position due to ice accumulating in the throttle body. In this
instance the driver can apply additional brake force or take other actions
(such as shifting into Neutral, turning off the ignition, etc.) to positively
stop the vehicle. In the absence of such action, the vehicle may maintain
speed when the driver expects the vehicle to slow.
Owners of affected vehicles in cold-weather states will be notified by
first-class mail in October and instructed to bring their vehicles in so that
a replacement throttle body kit can be installed. All work will be completed
at no cost to the customer and Audi will reimburse out of pocket expenses
related to this recall.
Audi has identified cold-weather states as: Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut,
Delaware, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts,
Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New
York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota,
Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming. This repair will be available at
no cost to owners in all other U.S. states when requested.
There have been no accidents or injuries attributed to this concern.
Customers with questions are welcome to phone Audi customer relations
toll-free at 1-800-822-2834.

Wonder if you'll need to prove tire rotation and sunroof rail lubrication to qualify.

Default Probably, since Audi will see them as being relevant details.

"I'm sorry sir, we are unable to replace your throttle due to lack of maintenance of the sunroof rail and tires. We have determined that this will invariably affect the throttle body replacement and thus are not able to grant your request."

Default Ho-ly crap. Good thing I've been waiting for the fuse thingy and control arm recall. Maybe I ought

to wait a couple more months and see what else happens!

It's a major PITA to take the car to the dealer for this stuff, I'd be going crazy if I had to do it one after another.

Default I believe the answer is a yes according to the second-last...

paragraph. Specifically....
"This repair will be available at
no cost to owners in all other U.S. states when requested".

Default Another week goes by and there's another recall on my car

I've never experienced a sticky throttle during cold weather driving, but I sure as hell have experienced a fading info display in my gauges!!! Where the hell is the recall on that bad boy??

Default How long before we see an A6 running at full (stuck) throttle, with flames licking from...

... the dashboard, with front wheels wobbling like a bad shopping cart?

HarborA6 is in heaven!

Any photoshop gurus want to take a stab?
