companies develop cars capable of extremely high speeds. Then, these same companies limit the cars to some arbitrary speed below the cars' capabilities. All I'm saying is that the limiters will come off, and the corporate egos will get involved, and we'll see increased speeds all around.

probably somewhat exponentially, as you go from 125 to 155 to 174. Simple fact is relatively small imperfections in the road, little curves, etc. are that much more likely to send you off of the road as that speed creeps up.
Having said that, I am sure what the Audi engineers would say is that given improvements in tires, traction controls, etc., the danger of crashing going 174 in their RS6 plus is no more than it was in a v12 750i Bimmer. And while that may be true, I don't think I want to be driving on the same road with any car going 155.

it was easy enough to have a new chip installed to cancel the limiter anyway, if exceeding 155 was all that important.
This falls into the "even so - so what" category, excepting that it might raise traffic safety eyebrows in the last great land of limitless speed.

that you were going 31,875 miles an hour and that due to the doppler effect of light, the red light appeared green to you. Don't forget to ask what the ticket is for going more than 30,000 miles over the speed limit, though!

both here and in Europe as several members of the press have written, and I am sure many owners can attest.

There is no magic number (of miles per hour) at which the likelyhood of an accedent drops, or increases as the case may be, magically. Anytime your speed increases the energy increases exponentially so the damage in an accedent will increase at the same rate. There is nothing special about 55 or 65 or 75, etc. but the potential energy in a accedent at 165mph is 9 times as much as at 55mph. When I was a flying safety officer in the USAF I saw a 1" thick lexan (polycarbonate) windshield and cannopy stripped off an airplane that was only only going 300 knots (about 350mph) when it hit a medium size bird (In the traffic pattern preparing to land). I've seen landing accedents at 150-200mph where the plane essentially disintegrates. There is a huge difference between crashing at 55 and 165 and anybody contemplating finding out how fast their chipped A6 will go should keep it in mind.
