Default audi speedos read fast?

According to audiusa website. A6 2.7t is speed limited to 130mph. (soft or hard limit?)

In a controlled environment, I was at 135mph at 6000rpm in 5th. I had no second way to verify my speed.

This leads me to believe that my speedo reads higher than actual speed. My speed limiter is broken or ....

Anyone have other experiences?

Most TTs will venture well beyond stated limiter speed of 130...our TT up to 136 & still climbing.

Default My speedometer is always within 1 to 2 MPH...

when compared to my GPS. Although, that's at much lower speeds (70 to 80 MPH).

Where do you guys drive your cars so fast?

Default At that speed, that is a small discrepancy

I think it's come out in court cases that manufacturers consider anything +/- 10% to be accurate. Or is it 5%? The point is, due to manufacturing variances it is never exactly spot-on, but each car differs differently. That's why cop cars have special speedos that are labelled "certified."

You need to do that stop watch vs. mile marker routine on a highway sometime, if you're travelling 60 MPH it's easier.

Default 2002 A6 Calibration Test

As a possible defense to exceeding the speed limit, I had the speedometer calibrated on my 2002 A6. The results were that the speedometer was nearly exact, with the biggest deviation being 0.4% faster than actual speed. (My wife was the one that caused the need for a calibration.)

Default I read a few years back that 3% error +/- was industry standard...

I think it was in a Road & Track article

Default You do have a second way to varify your speed....

Whan traveling at your set speed, reset your average speed on the computer. It is accurate and independent of the speedometer. I did and varified that the two settings are withing one or two km/h of each other.
