As i slow the car down the autobox downshifts and then the engine braking effect seems too severe ie. the car slows quite severely under engine braking. I am not familiar with the Audi tiptronic box but i don't think it should slow the car quite as much as it does. Anyone throw any light on this issue?
Thanks

Put it in D. Not S.

Dunno what's going on; my 2K 4.2A6 has the same pattern and doesn't downshift/slow the car..it coasts pretty well.
I'd say check the trans for fault codes using vag-com...is the trans coding itself stock or maybe someone has changed the default coding as well.

With my 2K 4.2L I'll get a downshift in D a little early while coasting to a stop from, let's say around 20 - 30 MPH. It's not too hard (my wife probably wouldn't notice it), but it does slow the car more than if it were allowed to freely coast.
It's not all the time, but it might be after some mildly healthy acceleration. Nothing real quick....just with a slight bit of authority.
I chalk it up to the adaptive program. If driving harder the RPM's usually hang higher and there is a pronounced delay in upshifting. But here, it upshifts typically...then downshifts a few seconds or so too early...especially for the RPM's at the moment.
Might also be related to my infrequent use of the tip to downshift while going down a kinda steep hill to assist the braking some...with RPM's only in the 2500 - 3500 range for about 10 seconds. Then, after driving up the less-steep hill in D to level terrain and start coasting to a light...it'll bump down just a little sooner than it needs to, and enough to feel the tug.
Sounds like you might be getting a harder downshift though.
