Auto To Manual??

Just wondering if it possible to convert an 1998 A6 2.4V6 from an automatic (tiptronic) into a 5 speed manual? Will the 5 speed manual box from a 2.8/2.6/2.4 fit?
I'm having major problems at the moment with my auto box, so I'm thinking about dropping the existing box and replacing it with a nice 5 speed manual.
What do you guys think?
TIA,
Stevie.

the tranny itself, you'd need to change the Transmission Control Unit, Engine Control Unit, wiring harness, etc....

TozoM8 on the D2 A8/S8 forum has also converted an auto car to a manny transmission. It is possible, but certainly not cheaper than fixing your auto trans. I was thinking about doing that as well, but I decided against it. I was going to use the trans from a 1.9 TDI, which would have no problem bolting up/withstanding the stock output of my 4.2. But, that trans alone would have been almost $3k, not to mention the price of the flywheel, clutch, and everything else. In the end, I am just going to upgrade my auto trans. Much cheaper..

Of course, a manual transmission from another V6, you will need its ECU, pedals, shifters, console, wiring harness, possibly new engine mounts, for sure transmission mounts. Also clutch/flywheel assembly.
Quattro? FWD? I'm guessing since you have 2.4, it's front wheel drive only. In which case you'll be better off with the tranny from the same car (another 2.4 but manual).

I think you guys are right, It's jut far too much hassle.
The auto "expert" fixing my tranny thinks the problem is derived from a faulty MAF or TPS! Just have to wait and see!
Car wil not change past 2nd gear in D but when you manually use the tiptronic mode it will change gear but slipping between each gear then thumping into the next gear! All this after a battery diconnect to try and clear a hunting/ idle problem.
Typical:-(

a MAF and TPS will cause all kinds of problems though. And your hunting/idle problem is likely a faulty TPS.
