Autoweek on the new one.

The info that's been made public in the last few days is ALL the info that's available - that means nothing specific about US-spec cars. It would have been "an exclusive" if AutoWeek was offered any info on this. With that being said, I guess it would not shock me to learn that a model under the 3.2 is being offered, which conceivably would compete with the 525 (184 hp, base price $40k). If that IS the case, it does not bode well for pricing. Hypothetically, if they are matching the 5 series engine for engine with comparable pricing (with Quattro being the "value proposition"), that would mean a base priice for a 3.2 closer to the $45k base of the 530. This lends credibility to JustAskMe's assertion that A6 pricing is going up $5-7k across the board.

share a common 90-degrees between cylinder banks and share a common 90 mm center bore to center bore dimension. The six cylinder engine is very different than that found in the TT, that engine's angle between cylinder banks is 15 degrees. The narrow vee allows for the sharing of a single cylinder head. See www.kak.net for additional details.
I agree that the fuel quality issue is a moot point after Jan 1, 05 but the release date of the new A6 for North America is rumored to be late '04; therefore, fuel is an issue unless the 3.2 L is introduced later, possibly the Spring or late Winter of '05. I cannot envision Audi releasing the A6 initially as a v-8 variant and without the air suspension. Audi's own documents state that the air suspension will be introduced in early 05. The A6 4.2 will compete against the M-B E500 and the BMW 545 and the air suspension is a necessary feature in that market segment.
This is why I doubt the statements made by Autoweek on the engine specifications for North America.

Yamaha has been using HPDI (high pressure direct injection) for years in their motors that work flawlessly on our fuel. Why can't Audi develope a system that will also work?
