I searched and didn't find anything regarding these failing... but I checked for 12 volts at the 2-wire harness plug with the brake pedal depresssed - checks normal.
It's off a 2001 Avant with 165k on the odometer.
I checked resistance across the leads in the led unit and got infinite ohms... so i think it's bad. I'm guessing since I live in MI that the hot-cold annual cycle has killed it similar to the way cruise control modules die the same death.
Interestingly enough I have repaired a cruise module with the solder fix, I wonder if this could be repaired...
At any rate, does anyone know of a good source for the replacement unit? I saw a number 4B9945097 on it.
Thanks

Since it broken, take it apart. It's probably a resister that quit. One option is to buy a 5050 or 3528 type LED strip from ebay and put it in the housing. Total cost under $2.

Seems like a lot when replacing 10 little 1.5w bulbs on the 2K4.2 A6 costs $15. Even that seems high for a $.05 wheat kernel bulb. 10 led bulbs are dirt cheap too, all u need is a load resistor.
Yup..Audi parts are expensive...my point is unnecessarily so, except for Audi profits.
Perhaps one reason that led is expensive is that it seldom fails, collision part, etc., and there are only a few in the system after production needs are met.
