What year is your A6? If I'm not mistaken only cars after Sept 2002 have LATCH system.

Default your stealer can retrofit a LATCH system for you. Or...

you can buy a seat that can make use of the 3 point belt. Personally, I do both and bought Recaro START child seats. Built like the proverbial brick sh*thouse.

Cheers,

My dealer retrofitted my old '98 A6 with LATCH at no charge to me.

Default Dealer will install the Latch system.

If you want the best go with the Latch and safety belt.

I used the three point safety belt with no problems for 5 years.

Install is free. Not supposed to use both systems - read several warnings, will post if I find one.

Default If there is no LATCH system...

you don't use the special latch clips/hooks that are on the baby car seat. You will use the 3-point seat belt to secure it. The instruction book that came with the baby seat should show you how.

Default Even without LATCH, you can install any modern car seat with a shoulder belt

You feed the shoulder belt under the tabs right along with the lap belt.

This picture hopefully gives you an idea of what I'm talking about:

If you have a car seat that cannot be attached with a shoulder belt, you need to replace it as it is too old to be safe.
