Will a rear facing baby seat (like the Britax) fit in the rear seat of the A6 ok? The reason I ask is that I am considering getting a used A6 (99-01) or a new A4 for the wife as we are expecting in about 6 months. TIA

Take the audi for a test drive. Go to the baby store and see if you can put it in.
Or take the baby seat to the Audi dealer and try to fit it in.
I would imagine it would fit in the A6, there is lots of space in the back.
If you live around someone on the board, maybe they could meet up with you. Try a post on the regional forums.

We have the sport seats, so in the rear-facing position a "car seat leveler" (along the lines of what you'll find if you do a search at http://www.onestepahead.com) was required to get the seat properly positioned snugly.
There are no such issues now that the seat is in the front-facing position.

Audi will install the LATCH anchors and tethers in '99 and later A6s for no charge. My '98 serial number just missed :-( but the later cars are fine. Then when Britax comes out with a LATCH kit, you will have an even more secure baby.
