Default Back from Laguna Seca (BWW)...

The Golden Gate Chapter's Laguna Seca event was great fun, as usual, and am looking forward to the next. I believe there were over 100 drivers, with cars ranging from SPEC Miatas to Lotus's, Porsche's, modded VWs, Subies, the whole nine (not to mention Alex's APR Stg. III A6!)

The drive up was crazy. Almost too much fun. Tim Troutman's route was spectacular, and provided a much more driver-oriented alternative to the RentAmerica RV-infested (albeit incomparably scenic) Highway 1. A huge thanks goes out to him, a real driving enthusiast whose routes are put together better than Pam Anderson's chest. The cabin in the A6 smelled of brakes the whole way up. Lots of fun.

The track itself was awesome - elevation changes, plenty of room for speed and plenty of turns to work on technique. Corkscrew was a blast (this was my first time driving the track) and turn 9 made my *** cheeks pucker on more than one occasion. By the end of the day, my pads and rotors were pretty well worn (posted some pics below)... what do you think? Think I can get another session or two out of them?

Anyhow, figured I'd post some pictures just to share, and looking forward to next year...

Default Welcome back! Next year I'll be there

I've been waiting for this post.

Those better not be your rotors dude! "Rotors...I don't need no stinking rotors!" That is baaaaad!

Looks like a great time.

Did you have to pony extra for the garage parking?

Default Holy excessive brake wear, what pads were those? Looks like a good time was had!! :)

I'm schedule to attend my first DE this April and I think the only 'mod' I'll do prior is throw in some more aggresive pads and flush with Ate SuperBlue; I'm running all stock now. The HP2s slow the car well, but I haven't heated the pads up to high yet.
What do ya think? Just wreck the stock pads/rotors (have about 20k on them now) or just the rotors and buy pads? Thanks for the input; glad everything went well.

Default Looking forward to it!

The garages were indeed extra... makes it easier when you are splitting with friends, though.

Yeah, the rotors are mine. Man, it was rough. I started that day with maybe half the pad left, and was just working those biatches and forgo to re-check them before my last session. ONe thing I learned, though, is when you've got metal on metal, it's really, really obvious!

Going to go by stoptech today to look at some new equipment....

Default Definitely a good time...

I was running Ferodo DS3000's. They are fantastic pads, and what you see in the pictures is the result of me being an ***, not a function of the pads. I thought I could squeeze in that last session, but, well, obviously I was wrong!

As far as my two-cent recommendation is concerned... a lot depends on how you will be driving. At my first DE, I simply changed the fluid to Motul 600 and left it at that. The stock pads / lines were fine for the level at which I was driving.

Having said that, if you go to one of these events, chances are you'll be going to more, and it might make good sense to pick up a pair of track pads. I'd say, ideally, that I'd go with a set of track pads, new fluid, and maybe some new brake lines. That all costs money, though, and you can save a lot just by taking it a litle easier on the track.

Also, before going with superblue, do a search on "super blue clutch" and "superblue clutch." You'll find many have reported problems with that fluid. I personally have been using Motul for the past year without incident, although DWP has read about some issues with that as well (might want to page him).

Anyhow, I'm excited for you. You're going to have a blast!!!!

Assume the silver Avant is a S6? Looks to be by the fenders and tires.
