Default Bad smoke problem -2.7T (URGENT! plz help)

Hello,

My only ride (since I sold the beater recently) aquired intense smoking habit.

Problem Car: 2000 Audi A6 Quattro 2.7T (58K miles)

I started the car today to warm it up. After 10 or 15 mins later went out and the car is putting out lots of smoke with sort of oil burning smell to it. I checked the droplets from the exhaust (very cold outside). Along with water drops, I found couple "beige" looking drops. I think this is oil mixed with fuel type mixture. It is definitely oily to touch.

I started to drive the car thinking that it would go away. Instead, there is ton of smoke from the exhaust. Turned around after a 1/4 mile or so and hooked up VAG and here is what I got:

Control Module Part Number: 4B0 907 551 L
Component and/or Version: 2.7l V6/5VT G 0003
Software Coding: 06652

4 Faults Found:
17831 - Secondary Air Injection System: Bank 1: Insufficient Flow
P1423 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
17819 - P1411 - 35-10 - Sec.Air Inj.Sys.,Bank2 Flow too Flow
16518 - P0134 - 35-10 - O2 Sensor Circ.,Bank1-Sensor1 No Activity Detected
16538 - P0154 - 35-10 - O2 Sensor Circ.,Bank2-Sensor1 No Activity Detected

I cleared the codes and they didn't come back again...

I checked the oil and it looks fine. I thought it did smell like a bit like fuel is mixing into the oil... I tried shutting it off and trying it again after an hour, same thing happens. Ton of smoke everywhere. The smoke is sort of blue in color.
I never had any sort of smoke problem with this car and this is the first time.

What should I look for?

Did anyone have this issue ever?
What could be going wrong here?

Default sounds like overfueling rather than burning oil

The secondary air pump works during cold start (other times too). The engine runs rich on start up and the air pumps gets the A/F ratio in the exhaust back to stoich so that the catalyst can work. So, the pump didn't run (first code) and your primary O2 sensors weren't giving feedback (codes 3 and 4) making the car run even richer. The smoke was from incomplete combustion. Oil smoke is greyish white while fuel smoke is dark grey.

Why this happened I have no idea.

Default Classic signs of a blown turbo. The oil from the leaking turbo seals took out the O2 sensors.

Ouch...

I have not started the car since then.
I got a ride from a friend.

Why would the turbo fail? I never heard any noises etc. The only noise after starting the car Cold is the "air-compressor" type sound and that goes away after a few minutes.

How do I go about ensuring that it is in fact the turbos...?

I thought the same thing too. But, the smoke does smell a bit like oil is burning...

What the hell.. now I have to look at turbo issue??? Any ideas on troubleshooting?

Default Re: Bad smoke problem -2.7T (how to trblshoot?)

I just wanted to add that the car, when I drove during that testing period after noticing the trouble had decent power. It picked up at stop signs ok and starts back up fine after shutdown. Wouldn't blown turbo cause the car to stall or have little power?

What places should I start looking as part of troubleshooting... ?

Usually you would be WAY down on power if you lost a turbo. Those also usually fail when under boost, not when idling. Plus, you get a VERY loud sound from the bad tubbo.

Nothing about the situation seems to fit but everything you describe about the car "smoke" does. I would guess that you're just sarting to get some leaking past one of the seals. If you whined the turbo out a few times you'll probably finish the turbo off.

The turbo's in the 2.7T are not accessible. I would suggest to take it to a trusted shop (or two) for proper diagnosis.

Default Re: How many miles on the car ... and,

Well, I bought this car used when it had 48k miles on it.

Here is the breakdown on the repairs done so far:

1) Replaced coolant temperature sensor (engine flooding during warm start issue)

2) Replaced torn TBB (checked and sure it was torn, not noticable power loss or anything, just checked and found it bad, so replaced it)

3) changed oil, oil and air filters.

That's it so far...
