A while ago, the technician scratched up my radio while the car was in for another problem. They replaced the radio recently, after a long wait due to backordered part.
The new radio (premium Bose stereo) sounds ok, but the bass is all wrong...its too high, even at midpoint and if i turn it down, then it sounds kind of "empty". It is definitely out of proportion to the mid and treble ranges.
Even my 12 yo son (he has a really fine musical ear), commented unbidden on the excessive bass.
Anyone have an idea why this might be, and how one might go about adjusting it?

Here's what worked on my 2001 4.2 sedan, and a few others who also tried it. Symphony hidden EQ settings can fix flabby bass and tonal balance.
Of course, small variations are bound to happen from car to car. If you just want minor differences, see if the tone controls give you enough change, leaving the EQ settings alone. If your midbass is still too high, try going to 4444 for the last 4 numbers, and/or fading the rear speakers down more.
