I searched the threads for a procedure on removing the battery from my '99 A6 Avant and couldn't find much. The inspection cover doesn't appear to allow enough room for removal of the old battery, strange... What else do I need to take apart under the hood to change to battery?
Also, how much should my Audi dealer charge for a replacement?
Thanks,
Tbone

You have to pull the rubber seal off the metal wall in front of the battery (full width of the engine compartment). This seems much more worrying/complicated than it is! Then the whole plastic cover can be lifted out & you can get at the battery and also the ECU etc.

Yeah, just remove the weather stripping that runs along the entire width of the car... then the part that covers the battery hinges right off...
I bought a replacement battery for $70 at AutoZone, replaced it in a few minutes...
Oh, and I thought replacing the battery may mess with some electronics, and thought that was why some A6 owners pay HUGE prices for new battery installations... but no issues at all...
