Hi all.

I have the three volume Bentley set (factory repair manual) for the C4 A6. It has served me well over the years, and I have been able to fix just about everything I needed to on my '95. Very comprehensive books.

I recently acquired a '01 A6 and purchased the Bentley (service manual) for it. It is a single volume and a lot of stuff seems to be missing (emission controls, after run coolant system (2.8L), code charts, etc). Did I get the wrong book? Is there a three volume (or equ) set for the C5 A6? Does the CD have more info than the book? I can't find anything called factory repair manual for C5 A6.

Thanks in advance for pointing me in the correct direction. I need to keep this thing running for 4~5 years.

The paper manual that you have is the A6 C5 service manual, and not the full repair manual which comes on CD-ROM (called Audi Bentley Manual on DVD - A6, S6 1998-05).

I made the same mistake, the book is pretty useless except for the nice pictures. You'll need the CD.

Yes, and be prepared for lots of fights over authorization keys, battles with anti-virus software (used to fail under Kaspersky and neither company would take on the problem, etc. It only natively supports Windows XP, although there are kludges for Vista and 7. Comprehensive for car repair, but as retail software it's a poor product.

Bentley sux. They won't take any responsibility for the accuracy of their data...and worse, their upgrades are often worse than the original data you already had. Under the new system, the upgrade online wipes out old data, which are often more illuminating (pun intended...archaic use of illumination, i.e., PICTURES!). I complained once to Bentley and they said they simply use what data Audi sends them.

Well, Bentley probably pays Audi a good deal of money for the data and Bentley should let Audi know their data is erroneous and should be fixed.

OTOH, only game in town.

True, true and true but Bentley is not the end of game here. You could always torrent Alldata and ETKA and between the trio you can actually cover pretty much everything, even the mysteries of engine internals Bentley seems to not know anything about.
