Default Bilstein Sport Shocks

I'm about to install Bilstein Sport Shocks on my 2.7T A6. I plan to keep the stock springs although I know most change to the lowering springs. Has anyone on here run Sports with stock springs and if so how did this combination work for you? Additionally, I have Hotchkis sways on front and rear. I don't want to lower because it's the wife's car and also I use it for ski trips on snow covered roads.

You should be running HD, not Sport. Sport is shorter and you will probably overextend them with the stock springs. Results might be a crappy ride or damage to the shocks.

That is not good. My vendor assured me that it was OK to run these with stock springs.

Maybe they know better than I.

Just talked to my vendor and he says that they have installed many of these on stock springs and they work well. He said that the HD and Sport shock bodies are the same length, have same travel, same rod length, and same perch height. Calmed my concerns so I'm going to go with this combo. I have a Porsche racecar with Bilsteins that I have had revalved at Bilstein and have changed spring lengths and ride height many times over the years with no adverse effects. The Bilstein web site says specifically that the Sport shocks are designed "for lowered vehicles and sport applications" so perhaps there is some room for interpretation.

this is news to me. Typically the sport means HD damping with a shorter piston, optimized for lowered, shorter range of motion. I'm bothered by the apparent contradictions. Have you called Bilstein?
