Here's the deal..... I can't lower my car (this sucks) but I would like to even it out. The rear is about 2 inches lower than the front due to the sound system in the trunk. So I was thinking I could just get grooved bilsteins and use a lower groove for the front, and stock for the back w/ fact springs. I am concerned that some people claim that the bilsteins are to rough. I drive some serious highway miles, but I need something stiffer for the street racing. I don't want to destroy the A6's luxurious ride, since this was one of the reasons I bought the car. Personal opinions of bilstiens would be greatly appreciated. Also if there is a flaw in my stock spring/bilstein combo please inform. Thanks

I installed Bilstien shocks/struts and Eibach lowering springs on my 95 S6. My primary goal was to lower the car and fill the wheelwells around my 18 inch Avus wheels.
With the Bilstien's, the car rode as if it had 100 psi in the tires - I don't know how else to describe it. I removed the Bilstiens and reinstalled the OE shocks and I am very pleased with the combination. I think the car rides better than ever.

I told her shocks were around $400-500. I'm sure those are the best option, and the way I should go. But I'd be spending a lot of time in my attorney's office instead of driving. Plus I hear divorces are real expensive! =P

it's either that or the H & R coilovers.....
I think the sport Bilsteins with the lowering springs would be a harsh ride know matter what.....that is a bit too low....IMHO

Therefore, they are supposed to provide a softer "around town" ride than Bilsteins. I've never had both in my car, though, so I can only say that Konis provide a nice ride IMO.
Konis come with 3 grooves in back, only one in front. The grooves in back are spaced stock, .25" above, .25" below.
Given your situation, you may want to consider having additional grooves machined above the stock position in back and additional grooves machined below stock in front. If you go with Konis, 2 Bennett can do this for you.
Hope this helps

If I can get the fronts grooved a few lower that would be perfect. I have had koni's in the past on other vehicles. I will have to investigate this option.
