Default Black interior?

What do you guys think of it? I am about to purchase my first Audi for my wife (2.8 with special leasing deal) and we are stuck on the cashmire silver for outside with the beige interior, or silver outside with the black interior. All of the pictures I see of the car have the light interior. Can anyone share some pictures of the black?

I have a Lexus GS400 with a beige interior, so I would like the change, but she is afraid about dirt/dust showing as well as heat. Any advice would be appreciated.

Unless you keep after it, the beige will eventually show some dirt. The black is easier to keep clean. But there is one thing to consider, and not the upholstery pattern of the black, vs. the beige. The beige (and dark grey as well) leather is stitched down into the seat and seat back in cross-wise, horizontal wide bands. The black leather in the 2.8 A6 (maroon, also) is stitched in narrow, lengthwise tubes on the seat and back. This design will not wear as well as the horizontal pattern, as it is more prone to creasing. If you take a look at the black, you will see the beginning of a crease that runs across the seat cushion, while the car is still in the show room! This phenomenon is missed with the crosswise banded pattern. I have the black, myself. But I wish I had the grey. As it is stitched in the more durable pattern, and is probably almost as easy to keep looking good as the black.

Default I wouldn't worry about the dust/dirt. Black isn't too bad for that. I would worry about the heat.

Some window tint would definitely help. Be sure to go non-metallic on your tint.

Default There was a discussion of the effect of black interiors

in hot climates a few weeks ago. I think the conclusion was it made little if any difference.

Default I had a 2.8 with Vanilla and dirt showed big time. My 4.2 is pearlescent white with tungsten grey..

leather and interior and it does not show dirt like the vanilla. I think the opposite is true. The lighter shows dirt more readily than the dark.

Default WADR, no dirt in my vanilla/royal. Leather is easy to keep clean. (more)

I wonder if Audi changed the hides sometime in '01 model year since many have also reported problem with vanilla.

Default I've got a black interior and had the same worries...

Heat is not an issue, believe it or not. My salesperson claimed that the windows block 98% of the UV and told me to wait before tinting. Good advice.

As for dirt, I think it gets dirty fast but that it's the sort of dirt that five minutes with a vacuum cleaner can solve. My A4 has beige leather and while it looks superficially cleaner for a longer time, it has several permanent stains - rubbed in dirt and a spot of brake fluid (don't ask) - that are here to stay. This is not a problem with the black interior.

I also think that black looks better, but that's subjective.

Glass does block most UV but not IR.

Default No worries for either heat or dust...

Not a problem at all---I thought the heat would be brutal, but so far I have had it in 109 degree temps without a problem, much to my pleasant surprise.
The dust is no problem either, just a quick wipe of the top of the dash occasionally with Pledge wipes, no more so than any other car.
Pic of rear seat (4.2) and sport front seat...sorry no pics of 2.8 seats.

Thank you so much for posting a pic of the interior. I really like the looks of it, and you seem to keep it very clean.

Looking forward to joining the ranks of you A6 members, even though it's only the 2.8, but you gotta start some where!
