Bose stereo question

I have a 2000 A6 2.7T 6 speed with a BOSE system. The word "BOSE" does not appear on the display at power on. I understand this may be normal and it may also be because the stereo is not "coded" with the BOSE equalization. Is this BOSE coding something that resides in the Symphony stereo or is the coding part of the car's ECU? If I installed a Symphony coded for BOSE from another car in my car would the stereo then display "BOSE" at power on?

Check the FAQ below for how to code it. Requires a VAG com, which you can borrow from someone local, I'm sure.<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/a6/msgs/285694.phtml">This link should help</a></li></ul>

My '00 A6 2.7t 6spd has the Bose package and says so at each startup. IIRC, there are VAG coding options to activate/deactivate the 'Bose option'...check the FAQ as Stoney suggested.

I have seen it posted here but don't remember exactly when. Try a search. My 4.2 was already coded to Bose so I did not bother to followup.
