Default Brake Caliper painting….how are the long term results?

I'm thinking about painting my brake calipers. Based on the information on the forum, the two most popular paints seem to be G2 Caliper paint and Plasti-kote high temp paint.

Most of the posts were done at the time that the modification was made and have been helpful in documenting how to do the job correctly (nice job guys!).

I'd like to know how the paint stands up long term. How many months or years have your calipers been painted, which paint did you use, and has the finish chipped or deteriorated in any manner. As much as I dislike the grey monoliths lurking under my alloys, I think I'd dislike chipped paint on the calipers even more.

Any reason not to paint the calipers?

TIA

Default I'm leaning towards Red.....

possibly black or blue....red might look out of place perhaps, but I think it adds a little pizzazz...maybe too much. You're thinking black?

More discrete (you know how I am). Shine but no flash. Ming Blue would be 2nd choice.

Default Well Mr. Discrete.....I seem to recall a red caliper or two on the S6, and then.....

there was that un-natural "rumble" emitting from that same S6…but I suppose you don't know anything about that!

Default Heh, heh. I bought the calipers used (black=better). The exhaust is a *performance* mod.

I just put up with the noise to get the extra powa! =P

Default The shop that installed my BBK also painted my rear calipers black w/...

Default very short-term results...

so far so good, and I do not see any reason why they will lose any quality over time. I went with Plasti-Kote enamel because it was a spray, and it did not require the same amount of time to harden before I could mount the wheels and drive the car.

If I had my own garage, I probably would have done the G2 caliper paint.

However, I was able to inspect Grapeking's rear calipers which were painted 2-years ago <edited, they looked so good I thought they were painted last year!> with similar enamel (VHT) and they looked brand new as well, even after the harsh winters we have.

The only reason NOT to paint the calipers is if your existing ones are not yet rusty, and you are CPO. I figure any issues with the brakes going forward, the paint will be to blame for anything that might be covered under CPO...but then again, they covered my control arms even though I threw on H-sports and coilovers.

c'mon G...just DO IT!!!

Default Over a year now, including winter with salt, etc, still look new. I used Plastic kote, black.

Default Black...

red calipers look not so good when diry...and kinda orangy sometimes. lus, you are calling lots of attention to your calipers, when they are simple stock HP2s, which are decent brakes but nothing to brag about.

I would vote for black calipers, with either white or silver audi rings.
