If you're planning on upgrading your brakes you might want to call Terry at KVR Brakes at 800-636-0854.
They specialize in AP Racing kits, and manufacture custom built kits too. He's exceptionally knowledgable--especially regarding Audi's.
I highly recommend them.

My brakes are almost unsafe, they are so wimpy.
Is this common? When I mention it to the service advisor, he says they will check them and they always come back normal (duh). I don't know if my booster isn't boosting, or my pads are funky or what. It's quite annoying with a fully loaded car.

Phred, which model do you have?? cause the 2.7 T has different brake calipers from the 2.8.. Our A6 Avant was delivered with glazed rotors rusted over.. It took months of hard braking and a trip to the dealer to clean off the rotors to get the car's braking system working properly.. They insisted nothing was wrong, but I complained loudly, it was unsafe.. The brakes on Audi's I have come to the conclusion are a bit suspect to say the least.. Plus the brakes on the 2.7T are over boosted and have poor modulation..

The braking system on your cars dates back to the '92 100, and is still being used in '01 models! I think once you pass 3500lbs, you need more stopping power to be safe.
At the very least, upgrade your pads and see if that helps... Rofren, Ferodo, Porterfield R4, etc... I have rofren pads... compared to stock, they are awesome! You probably don't really need to upgrade calipers, since that gets expensive... $1,200 and up for a kit, plus installation. Pads can be done for $150-$300.

I've got a 2.7 and had read about the oversized calipers (which are so "over-engineered" that they require additional offset on the wheels) but found the brakes to be spongy and lacking feel. I kept checking my brake fluid expecting to find a leak or low reserve and then thought it was just me!
