Default Brake pads installed - brake pad warning light still on

I installed brake pads on the rear wheels of my 2003 A6 3.0 today (after a long afternoon that included a broken caliper spreader)

The warning light is still lit, though, even though the new pads are installed and the front pads look plenty thick from the outside. Is there something I need to reset?

Default The inner pads are frequently found to wear faster on front brakes

and - if my memory does not mislead me - the wear indicator wires are only build into the inner front pads on our cars.

Dang, I can only see the outer front pads. Guess I'll have to take a look at the inner ones directly.

Pad warning light (inner front pads only, as zwop says) come on very early. If the light cam on recently, you probably have 40%+ left. No rush.

Thanks for the info! I ordered pads anyway and I'll take a look this weekend to see what's left.

If in fact your inner pads are worn significantly more than the outer pads you need to clean and relubricate the guide pins (floating caliper).

Checked today. Inner pads are pretty worn but should have a few weeks left in them at least. I have replacements in hand so I'll be getting that done soon.

Will the same Autozone/Harbor Freight caliper spreader work on the front calipers? I've done the rear pads a few times but never the front.
