Default Brake pedal goes all the way to the floor...please help me.

I replaced the rear brake pads/rotors yesterday. I did not bleed the brakes or open up the lines. I unscrewed the brake fluid resevoir cap and then compressed the caliper piston with my own homemade tool and some brawn. But after it was all done I have no pedal pressure. If I pump the brakes I can get them to work, but after a few seconds they go soft again and the pedal goes to the floor. Keep in mind I did not mess with anything else. Does anyone have any idea what could cause this? I should note that I turned the pistons counterclockwise initially and screwed them out, then I turned them the other way and compressed them. I found on my Jetta that this helped me compress them easier and it seemed to work just fine on that occasion.

Default Sounds like a damaged caliper piston seal.

First unscrewing the piston and then brawn should not be needed for this job ... with the correct brake tool. [I've also got 20-20 hindsight.]

It won't take much of a leak to allow the pedal to go to the floor. Pull the wheels and check closely for leaks. I hope that's not it, but since you never touched the bleed screws, I can't imagine what else it could be.

Good luck,

Default If it's just really spongey, bleed the brakes starting w/ rears...if it drops right to the floor...

...with little effort, you may have sucked some air @ the resevoir(?). Again, bleeding the entire system (rear brakes, front brakes AND clutch slave) should get it back to normal. Good luck.

Default Hey, you're the one with B6 S4 wheels on your 2.7T...

Had a post the other day trying to decide about wheels again. Got a great deal on 18" S4 wheels, but I love my 17" S-line wheels and I have 17" S4 Avus wheels for winter use.

The car looks great with those rims...decisions, decisions...
